The second-hand marketplace Users Share Anger Over Size Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.
This online marketplace has revised its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all shoppers about the modification.
Online Platforms Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors are posting online stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category compared to what was initially listed as a result of the reclassification.
The company said the new system was more in line with similar services.
It has advised users to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually when needed, resulting in member annoyance.
Size Classification Changes
Before the change, the sizing featured numerical and alphabetical indicators, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The new system has an alphabetical indicator and numerical range such as S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the size labels have been reassigned - for example a size L was formerly size 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Shopper Stories
A fashion influencer, who produces content about larger sizing, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Another user, from Glasgow, said garments she listed featuring size 14 markings were appearing on the platform as measurements 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they may become frustrated," she explained.
Manual Updates
A different user, based in Derby, said she had been left angered by the change as she had to manually change the sizing for "all her products".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Marketplace Information
The service features exceeding 100 million users, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has emerged as a preferred choice to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion when a surprising modification within the service has received backlash: earlier, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options after backlash from users.
