It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
